Days 26-31 Kelso to Limehouse
So I bet you thought we had given up. Actually, we have been on 5 hikes since the last posting. We just thought we would start combining some into a single post so people don't get bored. In early December we did a hike in Kelso before they opened Glen Eden ski club. They have some great mountain bike trails that run through the forest at the top of the escarpment and then down the ski hills. Great escarpment views!
Then we decided to do an extra hike in Hilton Falls that was not even part of the Bruce Trail (although it was near it). The next hike after that was supposed to be from Hilton Falls conservation area to Speyside. We parked my car at Speyside, and then drove in Brian's car to Hilton Falls. We got about half way into the hike when luckily Brian decided to ask me where my keys were. I don't know what made him think to ask that, but it was a very good thing. I realized I had locked them back in Brian's car, so we had to turn around and retrace our steps. If we had gotten to the end of the walk without any keys to get into my car, I don't think Brian would have been very happy.
One week later, back we went to Speyside to do the other half of our planned hike. There was no parking at the midpoint, so we had to walk south from Speyside in to where we got the week before and then retrace our steps again.
Finally today we got back into the rhythm of walking from one car to the other. We started at Speyside, walked north, and got to Limehouse. People thought we were crazy with the weather at -11 degrees and colder with the wind chill. But we actually think -5 to -10 is the perfect weather. Once you get going you can work up quite a sweat if it is warmer than that, and at this temperature there is no mud to slow you down.
There is a new Bruce Trail app that just came out. It makes it really easy to plan and track our walks. We typically do about 10 km which takes 2.5 to 3 hours. If anyone ever wants to join us for one, just let us know!!
