Day 12 - Skating in Stoney Creek

There is one word to describe our walk today - ICE!

Should we have turned back?  - Yes

Did we?  -  Ofcourse not!

It was so icy, even Brian fell.


We had to walk beside the path in the snow, because the path was so treacherous. 


Four km into our 8km walk Brian finally agreed to abandon the paths and hit the sidewalk.  
It made for a longer walk, but at least we survived it.


After 4 hours we got to our second car and drove back to our starting point.  We wanted to take a picture of the stairs at the beginning, but by that point some of the ice had melted.  Imagine these stairs with a solid sheet of ice from top to bottom.  That is what it looked like when we started our walk.  You would think it would not take 4 km of skating before we figured out maybe today was not the day to walk the trails.

Days 46 - 59 Thirteen Hikes in Eight Months, Including our 40th Anniversary

Well the pace has picked up a bit since my last post, but we're going to have to do more than 1-2 hikes a month if we ever want to finish this thing.  Today is our 40th anniversary, and we went to a great bed and breakfast in Stayner and did 2 more hikes up by Collingwood.  A bit muddy, but terrific views of Georgean Bay! However, I must admit that the best part was the breakfast at the Inn! Our hardest hike was the Salkantay Pass in Peru back in November.  After that we needed some recovery time before getting back to the Bruce Trail.   We actually enjoy hiking the Bruce in the winter, although it is much harder in snow shoes! We have had lots of visitors to the cottage this summer, so not a lot of time for hikes.  But now that Brian is retired we are hoping to pick up the pace.

Day One!!!

Woohoo, I am so excited to start hiking the Bruce Trail with my hubby! I feel like I have been eating and drinking myself to an early death so I am ready to change!!!!! I have about 40 pounds to lose- at least! We will start off slowly, but I feel this challenge will definitely help me get on the road to wellness again. Love Vicky

Day 14 - Hamilton

This week's walk was quite different.  The Niagara escarpment goes right through southern Hamilton, and so does the Bruce trail.  Part of it is along a nice flat paved rail trail.  But just when we thought we were in for an easy walk we came upon the first of several sets of stairs to take us from the bottom of the escarpment to the top. And ofcourse in Covid times we had to get out our masks to take the stairs.  Part of the trail showed off impressive natural beauty. and then it started to get more metropolitan Before we knew it, we were on a city sidewalk and then back into nature.  Lots of variety on this week's walk.  It was interesting, but soon we will be into Dundas Valley Conservation area, with a lot less concrete and more nature.  Can't wait!
